County’s irrigation water project to be ready in early 2021

The ongoing Rupingazi-Weru irrigation water project in Embu County will become ready in February 2021, says Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in charge of Agriculture Ann Nyaga. The Ksh.298 million irrigation water project is funded by World Bank and the county government.

According to the CAS, Already the government has pumped Sh148 million for phase one while Sh150 million has been set aside for phase two. She adds that the project is progressing well with 6.5km of the irrigation trench already installed and 4.8km of pipes laid down.

She was speaking during her recent inspection tour of the project at Ruguru-Ngandori ward. She says once complete, will give locals more farming options. “Residents of Mbeere South in Embu County must now exploring alternative crops apart from Muguka under,” she noted.
