The 2024 Naivasha Horticultural Fair highlighted a significant moment for Kenya’s horticulture industry, attracting over 200 exhibitors. Commonly referred to as the Naivasha Horti Fair, the event underscored Kenya’s reputation as a leading global hub for horticulture, often dubbed the “Garden of Europe,” due to its ideal conditions for flower cultivation.
Exhibitors included breeders such as Nakuru-based Van Kleef Kenya Ltd, Select Breeding, Ball Horticultural Company, Meiland Roses, United Selections, Chrysanthemum breeder Icon Selections, Alstroemeria breeder Könst Alstroemeria, and WAC Breeding. Propagators such as ProRoot and Stokman Rozen, along with companies like Plantech Kenya Ltd, showcased their products and services to industry participants.
The fair was a critical platform for the horticultural sector in Kenya, drawing support from key industry players like the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) and the Flower Council of Holland. Manufacturing companies offering a wide range of products—from mechanical tools to chemicals—were also present, demonstrating the importance of technology in boosting efficiency and productivity in the sector.
Naivasha Horticultural Fair was held at Naivasha Golf Club from September 20th to 21st and offered visitors a variety of insights into flower, vegetable, and fruit production. Attendees were particularly impressed by the display of unique floral varieties, such as spray rose Constellation, rose Snowy Blossoms, Chrysanthemum Allstar, and Chrysanthemum Superstar.
According to the event’s chairman, Richard McGonnell, the exhibitors provided a diverse range of products, expertise, and experiences, which he believes will further invigorate the Kenyan horticulture industry. He also acknowledged the support of the event’s sponsors, led by the Co-operative Bank of Kenya, for their commitment to the fair’s success.
He pointed out that the Naivasha Horti-Fair 2024 has been a great success, especially coming from the downside of the COVID-19 days when the event would face numerous challenges making it difficult to hold. Commending the sponsors for their determination considering the proceeds are given back to the community through the support of the children in a safe home at Naivasha.
In addition to breeders and growers, the Naivasha Horticultural Fair had companies like Majitec, Maji Water Storage, and Afro Drip present to introduce the latest technologies aimed at solving water challenges in horticultural production. Agrochemical companies also participated, offering expert advice on pest and disease management through best practices in pesticide use.
