West Pokot County Plants Trees to Fight Malnutrition and Climate Change

West Pokot County, known for its food production, is facing a malnutrition crisis among children. To address this and combat climate change, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has launched a massive tree planting initiative, planting 11,200 trees at two schools in the region.

The initiative is part of a larger plan to plant 25,000 trees annually in West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

The MOH, along with partners like the Kenya Institute of Primate Research and the Kenya Forest Service, emphasizes the importance of nurturing the trees for future generations and boosting the region’s overall tree cover.

The project aims to plant 150 million trees in the next decade, tackling soil erosion and promoting healthy eating habits.
