Kenya Exports keeps on rising
Kenya exports cut flowers, vegetables, fresh fruit, processed horticultural products, herbs and spices to international markets, mostly in the European Union.
Exports of cut flowers went upto 11,377 metric tonnes, fetchingSh7.14 billion in October 2015,from 6,443 metric tonnes worth Sh5.42 billion in October 2014.
Some 2,406 metric tonnes of fruit fetching Sh477 million were exported in October 2015, as compared to 1,992 metric tonnes in October 2014 which fetched Sh418 million.
Kenya exports vegetables including baby corn, snow peas, french beans, sugar snaps, snowpeas, among others.
Data from leading economic indicators, shows that vegetables fetched more earnings in 2015, with 9,201metric tonnes worth Sh2.8 billion exported in October 2015. In October 2014, Sh8,202 metric tonnes of vegetables garnering Sh1.53 billion were exported.
The exports decreased to Sh48658 million in November from Sh52131.17 million in October of 2015.
Exports averaged Sh26354.92 million from 1998 until 2015, reaching an all-time high of Sh59405 million in July of 2015 and a record low of Sh9007 million in January of 1999 according to Central Bank of Kenya records.
The increased exports and falling crude oil prices are projected to stabilize the macroeconomic environment.
It is expected last year’s pressure from the twin-shocks of widening current account and fiscal deficits, which largely contributed to depreciation of the shilling against the US dollar and a spike in short-term interest rates, to ease.
Cut flower exports ahead of the February 14’s Valentines’ Day was top in the list which the projection is based.
