Majitec, a blend of the Swahili word for water “maji” and the technology bit “Tec,” was named to be locally relatable and easy for customers to remember. With two decades in the market, the company has earned its place as a resolver of technical and mechanical challenges in addressing diverse water problems.
This has seen its presence soar from the horticulture sector to the building and borehole services. Majitec’s focus on offering water solutions coupled with expertise has helped the company maneuver through various economic hardships and surpass two decades by embracing diversity in its products. This has primarily been through upholding its after-sales services as a core part of maintaining customer relationships.
The company’s presence has grown over the years as it offers clients a channel for follow-up, allows services to be reviewed, and enables customers to engage directly in case of complaints, ensuring that issues are addressed Jayateerth Karjagi (JT), the manager, arrived in Kenya as an expatriate in 1998 with a degree in Hydraulics and Mechanical Engineering.
In the early 2000s, he revealed that the market was quite shaky and unpredictable. However, JT played a key role in an electrical company as an employee, contributing significantly on the mechanical side despite the uncertain, volatile, and complex market scene.
“This unpredictability, coupled with a desire to offer solutions to people, led to the inception of Majitec to offer water solutions to address the scarcity gap. This move was also bolstered by the citizens’ need for affordable, efficient water pumps and services to fit their specific needs. The company took ground in 2004, witnessing several incentives emerging in the floriculture sector, prompting Majitec to venture into the sector offering water solutions for irrigation firms,” said JT.
This move solidified Majitec’s position as a water solutions provider in the floriculture space and the private sector for building services like plumbing. However, the floriculture space experienced a downturn around 2007/2008, leading to a complete shift towards building services like plumbing and borehole services.
Majitec responded by supplying equipment to enhance the efficiency of boreholes and meet diverse specifications. Majitec has had an upper hand in providing water demands due to its expertise in devising new ways of dealing with challenges when it comes to pumping needs. When machines don’t meet the goal, readjustments are made to meet the needs.
This adaptability addresses a gap in the water industry, as most experts focus on a certain way of doing things. Hence, the prominence of Majitec. The company has proceeded with its vision by prioritizing the expertise held within and rolling out training for its members from a junior stage.
This is focused on bestowing them with company goals, vision, and a comprehension of the essentiality of delivering high-quality and satisfactory services that meet customer needs rather than just delivering.
Considering the outstanding relationships maintained between clients and Majitec, they have been able to engage customers on sustainability and other cost-effective ways of ensuring they still meet their needs while saving on expenses.
Some measures include making pumping easier and cheaper through reliance on gravity, and the installation of solar panels.
Diversity and Sustainability
In a step towards embracing sustainability, JT points out that Majitec has embraced after-sales service as its way to walk the journey with its customers.
This move has enabled the company to understand that clients face hurdles due to a lack of wider understanding of new technologies in the pumping sector. The adoption of solar pumping has enabled new means of revenue generation, bringing the advantage of reduced energy costs.
The existing AC-powered motors are solarized using inverters which convert DC power into AC, thereby not replacing any of the existing installations other than adding panels and an inverter.
When it comes to managing sustainably, the shift from heavily powered machines by electricity to solar power, the company commends the government for subsidizing solar panel prices.
In addition, they laud the clients for their faith in the company and positive reception of this change from fossil-fueled machines to cleaner, cheaper energy means like solar.
“We have no intentions of heading outside Kenya as much as we are offering solutions for East Africa’s water needs. We aim to reach the whole country and neighboring countries but stay in Kenya,” said JT.
Investing in Human Resources
Currently having its own space and equipment, the company now focuses on investing in people to ensure that the vision of the company is upheld. The company grooms young people, emphasizing morale and discipline through training, particularly for those aged 22-30.
According to JT, this is essential in meeting standards set by the company over the years as they steer forth offering excellence in their services. This engagement is aimed at rolling out field activities and further installing the trained individuals in various branches in major cities as branch managers.
Corporate Social Responsibility
As part of their corporate social responsibility, Majitec works with various community institutions like hospitals, schools, and religious organizations by helping them install borehole pumps with affordable packages.

Majitec is determined to weather the challenging economic conditions and expand its reach across Kenya. With plans to open four new branches in major cities like Nakuru, Mombasa, and Kisumu, the company aims to broaden its customer base and become the go-to provider of water solutions for domestic needs.
